On 19 April 2016, activist group called Resistant Citizen announced to organize a symbolic event "Just Standing" at the Victory Monument to demand for the release of Watana Muangsook, a politician who was held under military custody in a military camp after criticized the NCPO.
Activists hold and event for around 20 minutes and were taken to police station before being released. Anon was later summoned to acknowledge the charge under Public Assembly Act for not informing the authority in advance before holding public gathering.
Anon denied the charges and fought in the court. Dusit Khwaeng Court later sentenced him guilty and fined him 1,000 baht.
Defendant Background
Anon holds a Bachelor of Laws from Ramkhamhaeng University. He has join civic movements since he was a university student.
While practicing law, Anon conducted many human rights cases such as a case for villagers protested against a coal factory in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, a case for villagers protested against gas pipelines in Chana District, Songkhla Province, and many other cases for rallies.
Furthermore, Anon has also defended political cases and Article 112 cases, notably Uncle SMS case.
After the 22 May 2014 Coup, Anon was one of the Thai Lawyers of Human Rights Center (TLHR) lawyers. He has defended many political cases such as Siraphop’s defying NCPO order and Lèse-majesté cases.
Anon himself was also charged for defying NCPO order which prohibited public assembly for taking part in My Dear Election activity at the Bangkok Art and Cultural Center in February 2015.
